Course Title: Introduction to Theater
Course Description: Introduction to Theater is a dynamic and comprehensive course that invites students to explore the vibrant world of theater arts through hands-on experiences and creative collaboration. Designed for all 6th graders, this course welcomes beginners and budding performers alike, offering opportunities to discover their unique talents both on stage and behind the scenes.
Students will engage in a variety of activities that encompass essential theater elements, such as basic acting, improvisation, voice and movement for the stage, makeup and costume design, sound effects, set design, and storytelling. They will also delve into the cultural and historical roots of theater, exploring traditions from around the globe, including Commedia Dell ‘Arte and Noh mask work, an introduction to Shakespeare, silent film and melodrama, American Musical Theater, and more.
Students will gain confidence, develop their communication abilities, and experience the joy of creating something unique in a supportive and inclusive environment. Whether they dream of performing in the spotlight or designing the magic behind the scenes, this course has something for everyone. No prior experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to dive into the world of imagination and creativity. Students will leave with a deeper appreciation for the arts and the confidence to shine, whether in the theater or beyond.
